Shawn Hair, Head Coach
enters his 22nd season as the boys' varsity basketball coach, and his 29th year overall as a head coach. A graduate of Missouri State University, he was a head basketball coach in Missouri for 8 years - 2 at King City High School, 2 at Branson High School, and 4 at Ozark High School, guiding Ozark High School to a 47-11 record over his final 2 seasons. Hair was selected 2006 KC Metro Coach of the Year guiding the Lancers to a 2nd place finish at the state tournament. He was also selected 2007 Sunflower League Coach of the Year, guiding the Lancers to a Sunflower League title and their second best record (20-2) in school history. In 2009, the Lancers took third in State and won the Sunflower League for the second time in three years.
Coach Hair was also selected as the 2009 Johnson County Coach of the Year. Last year, he led the Lancers to their most wins in school history 21-4, and a fourth place finish in the state of Kansas. He is married to Jennifer Hair, who also teaches at SME and together they have 4 children: Luke, Grace, AB, and Caroline.
Last season, Coach Hair hit an important milestone, securing his 400th win!
Josh Brannon, Freshman B Coach
is in his 2nd year of coaching basketball for Shawnee Mission East. He graduated from Rockhurst University in 2016. The 6'5" Power Forward looks to bring his recent playing days experience to the Freshmen.
Throughout his collegiate career he found time to mentor and coach youth players in the community. Each of the past four summers, he coached at the San Antonio Spurs youth camps. He currently is a FOCUS Case Manager at Metropolitan Community College.
Andrew Gagnon, Freshman A Coach
is in his 8th year of coaching basketball for Shawnee Mission East. He graduated from East in 2000 where he lettered 3 years in basketball and was a 4-year letter winner in football. He also ran track where he went to state in the 4x100 his freshman and senior year.
Coach Gagnon is also a member of the football coaching staff for the past 6 seasons and is also the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Indian Hills Middle School.
He currently teaches 7th grade Social Studies and Physical Education at Indian Hills Middle School and is a graduate of Kansas State University with degrees in History and Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies.
Scott Kramer, Sophomore Coach
Is in his 2nd year with the SM East boy’s basketball program. Scott previously coached for 2 years as an assistant coach for Indian Hills Middle School. Scott is a graduate of Marysville High School in Marysville, Kansas. He was a member of the 2003 4A State Champion basketball team as well as a 2-time state medalist in tennis.
Scott attended Kansas State University earning his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Scott currently is a Physical Therapist at the University of Kansas Hospital.
Scott is married to Meghan and they have one child - Owen (2).

Ryan Oettmeier, Varsity Assistant Coach
enters his 15th year on the boys' basketball staff. Ryan attended Shawnee Mission South where he lettered 3 years in both Basketball and Baseball and earned 1st Team All-Sunflower League in basketball two years.
Coach Oettmeier earned his undergraduate degree in Secondary Mathematics Education at the University of Kansas. He currently teaches Algebra 2 and Honors Geometry at SM East.
Coach Oettmeier is also an assistant coach for both boys and girls golf teams. He is married to Julie and they have 3 children: Avery, Hank and Annie.

B.J. Hair, Junior Varsity Coach
enters his 26th year as a teacher and coach. Has coached basketball at every level from middle school to college. Most recently, was the junior varsity coach at St. Thomas Aquinas (3 years). Previously coached at Shawnee Mission North (6 years), Lee’s Summit High School (3 years), William Jewell College (2 years), Winnetonka High School (8 years), and Harrisonville Middle School (2 years).
He graduated from Bishop Hogan High School (KCMO) in 1987 and was fortunate to be part of a team that finished fourth in the state and has great memories from that experience. Went on to study at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State University). Received a degree in Education in 1991 and earned his master's degree is from Webster University (St. Louis, MO).
Teaches elementary physical education at Highlands and Rising Star in the Shawnee Mission School District.
Married to Jacqui for 23 years with two daughters—Ella (15) and Audra (13). When not being an unpaid UBER driver for all of their activities, he enjoy biking and running.
